How to Pray in the Morning
You do not need a script. A simple pattern helps if you freeze when you try to pray.
- Pick a spot. A chair, a porch or the edge of your bed works.
- Start with thanks. Name two or three things you are grateful for.
- Say what is on your mind. Be honest about worries, hopes and plans.
- Ask for what you need. Include guidance, strength and peace.
- Pray for others. Name your family, friends and anyone in need.
- Close with trust. End with Amen, or sit in silence for a minute.
Where Morning Prayer Comes From
Praying at dawn is an old habit. The Psalms mention it often, and Mark 1:35 says Jesus rose well before daylight to pray in a quiet place.
Churches turned the habit into a rule. The Catholic Church calls its formal morning prayer Lauds. Britannica lists Lauds among the church’s solemn morning and evening prayers, paired with vespers at night. It belongs to the divine office, also called the Liturgy of the Hours.
You do not have to follow a set form to pray in the morning. A few honest sentences count just as much.
